In an era characterized by ecological crises, financial instability, geopolitical conflicts, and growing social inequalities, a critical reassessment of the capitalist state is both timely and necessary. Marxism and the Capitalist State: Towards a New Debate, edited by Rob Hunter, Rafael Khachaturian, and Eva Nanopoulos (2023), addresses this need by bringing together emerging critical theorists to revisit and develop Marxist perspectives on the state’s role within capitalism. Published as part of the "Political Philosophy and Public Purpose" series by Springer Nature Switzerland AG, the volume seeks to invigorate debates around the state’s function in reproducing, shaping, and potentially challenging capitalist social relations.
